  • What is it?

Manufacturing is the ideal platform that integrates discoveries from basic sciences, technological and business innovation, and human-factors "design." Northwestern Initiative for Manufacturing Science and Innovation (NIMSI) can both focus and leverage our strengths in manufacturing processes and equipment, design, materials, nanotechnologies, computational tools, human-machine interface, logistics, policy analysis, and serve to expand and encourage collaborations with multiple existing centers and affiliations of Northwestern and external partners.

Flexible and Personalized Manufacturing

We seek new solutions to meet the ever-increasing demand on rapid manufacturing and hyper-individualized needs.

Computational Design and Manufacturing

We address the complexity and scalability of manufacturing systems using predictive digital tools across length and time scales.

Logistics and Policy Analysis

We consider issues related to supply chains, energy use, sustainability, and economic and employment policy.
